Scott, I want to thank you for the repairs completed this past summer. After sustaining damage to the boat from the storm of the century at Priest Lake 2012 the work you performed was exceptional when finished.
As you know some of the pin-stripping and rub rail were not done to my satisfaction and without question you re-scheduled a time to complete the follow up work. No questions. No excuses.
Additionally, there was some extra work done on the get coat to get the job at 100% and you were kind enough to include that in the final insurance payment. Finally, the initial bid was accepted without question by the insurance company and they issued a check with in 5-7 days, getting you the money and me back on the
water.

It does look cool, if I did it again, I would do straight edges on the top and bottom and then the back edge about squared off with the back edge line of the boat, maybe even shorten it to 2 1/2 feet. This platform is going to be great! Its going to be a lot of fun. I will send you pics of the boat clean and throw in some bikini pics!
I've never seen a speedboat with a swim platform! I've got a machine shop that is actually going to build a tube aluminum frame underneath that you will like a lot.
This will without a doubt be a seller for you!

Just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how much we love the paddleboard. Truly it is a piece of art. We had a hard time dropping it into the water the first time because it is so beautiful and we didn't want to put a scratch on it, but after we tried it, we use it all the time.

We just could not be happier with the process and the end result. We have added beautiful space to our boat as well as improved resale( as if we would get rid of it now). I don't know a swim platform from a cutting board, but I do know that Scott Kurtz at Contemporary Fiberglass & Marine CAN DO when it comes to boats. In 'bringing back' a classic fiberglass cabin cruiser, Scott, Akim and Frank have been invaluable in their work, attention to detail, suggestions and follow-through to help bring my boat to peak function, performance and aesthetic of the 1950's.

We finally got to enjoy the boat in the SUN. it’s been SO wet here in Eastern Washington for the last month. WOW, this swim deck is the best thing that we’ve done to our boat. Lana and I LOVE it. It’s just like home- we have a back porch! Among many of the advantages, it makes loading and unloading onto a dock a cinch, I can’t imagine the boat without it. Along with just hangin’ out, we use it for storage on week long trips as well as a great place to set up the BBQ.
I can’t say enough about Contemporary Fiberglass, Scott met us after hours on a cold weekend day in November, gave us options and ideas and got this done for us-ASAP. There were a few snags that Scott was glad to make go away, which just drives home the point of the great customer service we received. I’ve recommended Contemporary to my friends and will continue to do so. We are looking forward to many BBQ's on the boat and just getting our feet wet sitting on the deck. >>>>>> THANKS SCOTT.

It was important to us that we got a color matched platform for our boat. He had us send him color swatches that we got from the hardware store. He used those to match the colors on our boat exactly. No other platform maker would promise that they could do that.
He sent me pictures everyday so that 1) We'd see the quality of workmanship that went into the platform. It was interesting to say the least to see it transformed from pieces of FRP to a finished platform; 2) We could see the progress that he was making so that we knew he was abiding by his promised schedule and finally 3) If we did not like the design, we could change it during the manufacturing process. No surprises!

Didn't want a platform that looked like everyone else's, and all the others that we've found are too small for what we were trying to accomplish. I would like to change the power end around on my LED lights, is there any adhesive holding them in on the rub rail or can I carefully remove the lights and run them starting from the opposite side. I assume I could use a hair dryer to warm up the rubber and remove and replace the rope lighting in the other direction. If you do not recommend doing this I won't. It would just be more convenient if the lighting entered the boat on the starboard side. I ordered the port side originally.
The platform is great can't wait to get to the lake.

I was going to go with swimplatforms.com but it just wasn't big enough. His prices at myswimplatform.com seem a lot more reasonable also. He also has a lot of other options available for mounting things to the swim platform, like trolling motors, tables, BBQ's etc...anyways, i'm measuring up my 180 tomorrow and sending him a template. The one i'm having made will extend out over 30" which is more of what we wanted than the 22", which is all that swimplatforms.com would do. We will have seadek (teak look) on it and he will color match our boats stripe....only weighs in at about 50lbs, work is guaranteed, and he goes up to 2 colors at no extra charge...just thought it was a much, much better deal deer wise....everyone should check out his stuff.

That first year ended up being pretty costly after the prop repair, etc... But from listening to your advice regarding driving lessons and recommended care and maintenance, I think I did pretty good these past two years, huh? We've thoroughly enjoyed taking friends and family out on the river. It has become one of our favorite activities.

Scott custom designed and made my safe step swim platform in record time, and it is perfect. I'll be spending time on the ocean, in my 21 foot Chris Craft Scorpion, and this step adds a lot of safety, as well as allowing me to put the fish box on the outside of the boat. This is a good looking, rock solid platform - well worth the price.

We will definitely continue to send our friends in need of boat care to you. And of course, you will be the only person that we trust to maintain our other boat. There is a guy in Spokane, WA that makes the platforms . . . He talked me into making it that big, so it would completely cover the outdrive, and now I'm glad he did. It is 3/4" thick fiberglass with the tapered rim board. It's nice because it makes the boat a lot bigger space wise, and gives you a place to put your board on. The platform is supported with 3 diagonal braces to the rear of the boat. The boat was reinforced at the connection locations. . . it's solid. One negative though, you can't drive very fast in reverse . . . I did it once and the platform dug into the water and darn near swamped the boat, live and learn.

Kurtz might spend the day sanding blisters from a fiberglass hull, or designing an extended swim platform for a Bayliner. The job requires the same problem-solving skills he honed as a metallurgical engineer at Kaiser Aluminum Corp., but the feedback is quicker. more..."When I was an engineer, I could work on a problem for more than a year before I got the gratification and customer acceptance," said Kurtz, 44.
At Contemporary Fiberglass and Marine - Kurtz's 16-month old- company - customers drop in all the time with suggestions.
Take Ray Coffman, for example. Coffman runs a charter fishing business from his 29-foot Cuddy Cabin Bayliner. He'd always considered the narrow "swim platform" off the back of the boat a design flaw.
"It was only two feet wide. ...There was no room for error," Coffman said. "Your foot slips off the back, and there's the propeller."
After Coffman and a few of his customers nicked their toes on propeller blades, he commissioned Kurtz to build a longer swim platform. The fiberglass platform now extends four feet from the boat - a safer design for people who want to dangle their legs in the water, Coffman said.
"We also clean all the fish back there," he said. "It keeps the mess out of the boat."
Kurtz has since sold a dozen of the custom swim platforms. He's hoping that innovative projects like the platform will help him carve out a successful niche in the boat repair and storage business.
The swim platforms sell for about $50 per square foot. They're shaded to match the color of the boat, designed with a non-skid surface, and engineered to withstand weights of up to 125 pounds per square foot.
"Three hefty men can be up there, and it's still very sturdy," Kurtz said.
So far, word-of-mouth has been his best advertising. He's received four orders from the same marina on Lake Roosevelt.
Other projects litter his shop. Kurtz designed and built a six- ton hoist system that lifts 35-foot boats. He's also working on "family-style" seating arrangements. Typical boat seating includes two forward-facing seats, connected to two backward-facing seats. They fold out into two uncomfortable sleeping cots, Kurtz said.
His design includes a side couch that folds out into a futon. It sleeps a family of five. "He's really onto a good idea," said Darby Jacobs of Jacobs Upholstery, who's working with Kurtz on a prototype. "I hear from lots of customers that they don't like the back-to-back seats. ...You'd be able to take an 18- or 19-foot Runabout, and retrofit it like a Ski Nautique."
Kurtz worked two stints in manufacturing before opening Contemporary Fiberglass and Marine. He left Kaiser's Trentwood plant during the 13th month of the lockout, and ran a rolling mill in Wisconsin for three years. When that mill moved to Mexico, Kurtz headed back to the Inland Northwest.
To raise start-up funds for his new company, he refinanced his log cabin on Lake Roosevelt. Kurtz recently hired his first permanent employee. He's anticipating sales of $125,000 this year.
